When you’d like to take your business to the next level, a third-party logistics (3PL) company can take care of the major functions of your operations, like shipping and logistics. Experienced companies have the employees, tools or equipment, and infrastructure to automate some or all of the following tasks:

• Receiving inventory: A distribution center can cover supply chain management, inventory management, quality control, order processing and customer service.
• Storing inventory: The fulfillment center may send the goods to temporary or long-term storage by slotting the inventory, indexing items and keeping a tab on item movement to ensure future shipping without delay.
• Order processing: A fulfillment center picks out the items for an order, transports the products to a packaging center, completes a damage inspection and moves the packed items to a shipping station. Those orders are dispatched complete with packing slip instructions and dimensional weight (DM) determined for transport speed and cost.
• Shipping and delivery: The processed orders go to a third-party carrier for shipping, and the station updates the order status after the order is delivered to the customer.
• Processing returns: A fulfillment center may handle quality checks for exchanges and returned products and either restock, recycle or return the goods to a manufacturer for a distributor refund.
